JEE Main Marking Scheme

According to the marking scheme of JEE Main, the candidate will get 4 marks for every correct answer. The exam has the procedure of negative marking. So for every wrong answer, the candidate will have to lose 1 mark.

Candidates can calculate their marks by calculating the total number of correct and incorrect attempts in the OMR sheets. Calculate all the total positive and negative marks to come to a conclusion of JEE main result/scored marks. You can get the total score by deducting the total negative marks from the total positive marks. Here is the quick formula to calculate marks;

  • Total positive marks = (Total correct attempts) x 4
  • Total negative marks = (Total incorrect attempts) x 1
  • Total JEE Main Score = Total positive marks – Total negative marks

Difference between Percentage and Percentile

Usually, JEE aspirants get confused between percentage and percentile. Both of these terms are different and so does their calculation. Let’s know what is percentage and percentile.

When did JEE Main April result release?

Its result has been declared on 6th August

When will JEE Main result for the February session?

The JEE Main paper 1 result has been released on 8th March

What is the difference between cut off marks and percentile?

Cut off marks are the minimum qualifying marks that you should secure to qualify the exam. Whereas percentile score represents how many candidates have obtained marks equal to or less than you. For example- You need 50 marks to qualify for an exam, and you have scored 70 percentiles in the exam. In this case, 50 is the cut marks and 70 percentile means that 70 % of candidates have secure marks equal to or less than you.
Percentile should not be mistaken with percentage. The percentile score is based on the relative performance of the candidates.

I have appeared for both the exams; which score will be preferred?

NTA will consider the best of two JEE main results of those candidates who took both the exams.

How can you access JEE Main result/rank list?

JEE main result How to calculate percentile

The percentile score would be based on the relative performance of all the aspirants appearing in the exam. The score would be obtained after transforming the scores into a scale ranging from to 0 for each session of examinees.

As per the official NTA website, “The Percentile Score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below (same or lower raw scores) that particular Percentile in that examination. Therefore, the topper (highest score) of each session gets the same Percentile of which is desirable. The marks obtained in between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate Percentiles.”
