Top 5 Fixes for Cannot Change Country in Google Play Store

Setting the right country in the Play Store is very important since it determines the content you see in the Store. Some apps, games, and other data from the Play Store are limited to certain countries only. In such cases, users face issues where they cannot view local content if their Play Store country is different from their current country. Now when they try to change the Play Store country, they are unable to do so. If you are experiencing the same issue, this post will help you change the Play Store’s country on your Android phone.

When one can't change country or region in the Play Store, it can be quite harrowing. If that happens to you, you wouldn't be able to use the current country's currency and miss out on apps. Fortunately, you do not have to keep using the Play Store from a different country profile. You can switch to a new country by following the fixes mentioned below.

Let’s check various solutions to fix cannot change the country in Google Play Store.

1. Check Limitations

Google’s official support page mentions various limitations related to changing Google Play country. Those are:

  • First things first. In case you have changed your country in the past 12 months, you will not be able to change your country again. That’s because you can change your Play Store country only once per year. And the year starts from the day you changed the country. You will have to wait for the remaining months before you attempt to change the country again.
  • Secondly, you need to be in a new country.
  • Lastly, if you are part of a Google Play Family Library that might also be interfering with changing the Play Store’s country. Basically, all the members of the Google Play Family should be in the same country. This limitation shouldn’t affect you if you are the manager of the family as others need to be in the same country as yours. However, if you are other member of the Play Family Library, Google Play's regional settings will impact you too. You need to leave the Family Library to switch countries.

2. Clear Play Store’s Cache and Data

Play Store will automatically pop up a notification when you move to a new country. In case that doesn’t happen, clear its cache and data. That will not uninstall your apps or their associated data. It will only reset Play Store settings to default. Refer our explainer to know what happens when you clear app data.

Follow these steps to clear the cache and storage of the Play Store.

Step 1: Open Settings and go to Apps.

Step 2: Under All apps, tap on Google Play Store.

Step 3: Tap on Storage followed by Clear cache. Then tap on Clear storage/data.

Step 4: Restart the phone. Now try changing the country.

3. Change Google Play Country

You can also change the country in Play Store manually. Let’s try the regular method of changing the Play Store country.

Step 1: Open the Play Store on your Android phone or tablet.

Step 2: Tap on the three-bar icon at the top and select Account.

Step 3: Under the Preferences tab, you will have the Country and profiles section. If you are in a new country, you will see the Switch to <country name> Play Store text with various payment methods available, such as debit card, credit card, PayPal, etc. Tap on the payment method that you would like to use. It’s mandatory to add payment details for the new country. Enter the relevant details.

Step 4: A confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap on Continue to confirm the changes.

Pro Tip:Install VPN on your Android phone and connect with the country you want to switch to in the Play Store. Then open the Play Store and follow the above steps for changing country. You will be able to change the country by adding a new payment method.

4. Update Play Store

If the above two methods fail, try updating the Play Store manually. For that, launch the Play Store on your phone. Open the sidebar from the three-bar icon and select Settings. Tap on the Play Store version. That will force the Play Store to update if available. Check other methods to update the Play Store.

5. Troubleshoot Existing Payment Profiles

The problem majorly happens when users do not see the new country and payment options in method 3. In such cases, you will need to take the help of Google payment profiles. Basically, you will need to switch between existing payment profiles or close your existing payment profiles and create a new profile for the new country. Make sure to add a payment method from the new country too.

Here's how to troubleshoot payment profiles.

Verify Current Payment Profile

Step 1: Open storycall.us from a browser on your mobile or PC and log in with a Google account if you aren’t logged in automatically.

Tip: You can reach storycall.us from Play Store sidebar > Payment methods > More payment settings as well.

Step 2: You will reach the Google payments center screen. If you are from PC, tap on Settings at the top.

On mobile, tap on the three-bar icon at the top of the web page and select Settings from the sidebar.

Step 3: Scroll down in Settings to the Payments profile section. You will see the name of the country that Play Store is currently using. This should confirm that the Google payment profile is responsible for the Play Store’s incorrect country. Now you will need to switch to a different profile or create a new profile.

Switch to Different Payment Profile

In case multiple profiles are already added to your account, you will see the 'Payment profile for Google Play’ section at the top. Tap on your name under it, and all active payment profiles will open.

If a profile for your current country is already added, select it to switch to it. However, make sure it says Individual profile for Play. In case it says Individual profile for Domain or something else, it will not be used for Google Play. You will have to create a new profile, as shown below.

Once you have switched the profile, open the Play Store, and see if the country has been changed. If the country didn't change, create a new profile after deleting all existing profiles.

Create a New Payment Profile

To create a payment profile for your country, open storycall.us Go to Settings. Now click/tap on the Edit icon next to Country/Region under Payments profile. Click on Create new profile.

Follow the on-screen instructions to create a profile. You will be asked to select the country and add your address. Finally, you will be notified that a new payment profile has been added.

Now open storycall.us again and go to Settings. Here you will see the new profile. Make sure to switch to the new profile. We aren’t done yet. You will need to add a payment method for this new profile to use it in Google Play.

Add (or Remove) Payment Method

Firstly, switch to the new country profile from storycall.us Settings. Then go to Payment methods. You will find it at the top on PC. On mobile, you can access it from the left sidebar.

Remove all the existing payment methods by clicking/tapping on Remove. Then scroll down and tap/click on Add payment method. Enter the payment details using available methods for the new country.

With the new payment profile selected and payment method active as well, open Play Store. Go to Account from the left sidebar. Hopefully, you will see the new country in Countries and profiles.

In case you do not see it yet, force close the Play Store app or clear the Play Store’s cache and data as shown below. If the new country still doesn’t appear, you will need to delete all your existing payment profiles, as shown below.

Delete Payment Profile

To delete your existing payment profile, switch to it as shown above. With the profile selected, scroll down on the Settings page, and you will see the Close payments profile option. Click on it. A confirmation message will appear. Confirm the deletion of the profile.

Repeat the same for all existing (and old) payment profiles. Make sure to delete the associated payment methods, as shown above.

Once all profiles are deleted, begin fresh by creating a new profile with new payment details. That will reflect in Play Store too.

Pro Tip: Find out how to get paid apps for free from Play Store.

Tips to Remember

  • Make sure you are in the right country profile before adding a payment method.
  • Clear Play Store’s cache and data or force stop the app after trying each method.
  • Ensure Google has removed all your existing profiles before you add a new one. I had to delete the country profile twice to make it work.

Should You Change Country

You should change your Play Store country if you have moved to the new country for a year or more. That way, you can access the local content that otherwise remains inaccessible.

When you change your country in Play Store, that will not affect data stored in Google Photos, Drive, or other Google apps. However, you will lose access to Google Play balance. You will still be able to use it if you switch back to the old country. In some cases, you might lose access to certain apps, books, games, TV shows, movies, etc.

How to Change Country/Region in Google Play Store

Using the Google Play Store is pretty simple: you pop it open, search for the app you want to download, and install it on your device. That's about all there is to it.

But what happens if you move to a different country? You'll need access to the proper version of the Play Store for billing information. And Google Play features different apps for various regions, which can sometimes allow or block access to certain apps.

Whether you've recently moved or want to try accessing another region's Play Store (which comes with a big caveat), here's how to change your country setting in Google Play.

How to Change Country in the Google Play Store

Follow the below steps on your Android device to change your Play Store country:

  1. Open the Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Slide out the left menu and select Account.
  3. On the Preferences tab, you'll see a Country and profiles section at the bottom with your account's current country. If your phone detects that you're now in a different country, you'll see a Switch to the [region] Play Store option below. If you don't see this option, skip below for more info.
  4. Under the Switch to the [region] Play Store header, tap one of the options to add a payment method for your new country. This will vary by region; most should at least have the option to Add credit card. Review the warning prompt and hit Continue.
  5. Proceed through the prompts to add a new payment method for the country you're switching to.
  6. Once you've switched countries, you're now able to browse the Play Store for that region. The change may take up to 48 hours to go into effect.

The option to change your Play Store country won't appear for everyone. It only shows up if you were previously in a different country than you are now (based on IP address). This means you can't just switch your Play Store to any country that you feel like. In the above example screenshots, we used a VPN to change our location to Brazil.

If you've previously changed your country in the Google Play Store, you'll have the option to switch between your old and new accounts, if you wish. This is helpful if you moved abroad for a few years and then returned home.

If you use the Google Play Family Library feature, you also won't see the option to change your Play Store region.

Warnings About Changing Your Google Play Store Country

When you change your Google Play Store location, you must be aware of a few important points.

First, you cannot use your old payment method with your new account. You'll have to use the one from your new country. Keep in mind that you might lose access to some apps and other content if they aren't available in your new country.

Related: Simple Fixes for Common Google Play Store Problems

After swapping, you also can't spend your Google Play balance from the old country. That includes any gift cards you've added but not spent yet, as well as credit earned from Google Opinion Rewards. If you ever switch back to the old account, you will regain access to that balance, however.

You will also lose access to Google Play Points when you switch countries. If you subscribe to Google Play Pass, that subscription will transfer to your new country if the service is available there. In case Play Pass isn't available in your new country, you won't be able to install more apps from Play Pass in your new region.

In addition, you can only change your Play Store country once per year. You won't see the option to change your country if it's been less than a year since your last change.

Because of all this, we recommend changing countries in the Play Store only if you've actually moved countries and plan on staying for at least a year. While you can trick this by using a VPN, it's not worth it just to get access to a few different apps.

You'll be locked into a Play Store outside your actual region for quite some time, which will be a big pain. That assumes you'll be able to get a payment method for the country you want to switch to, as well.

Change Your Play Store Country or Try Another Store

Now you know how to change your Play Store country. It's an easy process as long as you've actually moved countries and have a valid payment method there, but make sure you know what you're getting into.

Meanwhile, if you want to access new apps without switching Play Store regions, you'll find lots of alternative places to download Android apps that aren't available on Google Play.

How to unblock Google Play Store and Change Region and IP Address

In this guide, you will learn how to:

  • Change your permanent Google Play Store country.
  • Change your Google Play country temporarily via a VPN.
  • How to unblock Google Play Store
  • Fix Google Play country not changing problem.

Do this to change your Play Store region in 5 minutes:

  • Get NordVPN – subscribe, download, and install it.
  • Log in to the VPN app and connect to, for instance, a US server.
  • Open your Android Settings > go to apps.
  • Find Google Play Store and tap it.
  • Tap on Force stop, under storage, hit Clear cache, and also clear data.
  • Launch the Google Play Store and check on paid apps.

Quick Summary
Google Play Store filters most apps through a geo-location basis and content rights. Some apps are available in some regions, while they are not accessible in others. Additionally, different areas offer different billing methods. For a satisfying Google Play experience, you need to set the proper Google Play country.

Change Google Play Store Region

Change Your Permanent Google Play Country

This is necessary if you relocate to a different country. The change will ensure your billing matches the country’s currency. You will also get access to apps available in your new country of residence.

It is advisable to make the change while you are in the new country. You should also have a billing method compatible with that country.

What to note:

Google allows you to change the permanent Google Play country after 12 months. If you don’t have plans to wait for another year, use the temporary option.

After the change, you may lose access to some of your games and apps, movies and TV shows, and even books. This might include some Play Pass apps. Although your Google Play Pass will still auto-renew, you won’t install additional Play Pass apps. You will have to cancel your subscription.

Lastly, you won’t be able to use your Google Play balance linked to your previous country in the new country. It will be usable if you revert to the previous country.

Use the following steps to change your permanent Google Play country.

On your Android

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your avatar to open the menu.
  3. Tap on Settings > General > Account Preferences.
  4. Under ‘Country and profiles,’ find your name and country.
  5. Next, add your new country’s payment method. – If you have none, follow the on-screen instructions to add one. This will be linked to the new country.
  6. After adding the new country’s payment method, the change should occur automatically. At times you will have to wait for up to 48 hours or sooner.
  7. You can also clear your Google Play Store app cache to speed up the process.

On your Computer

  1. Open your browser and go to storycall.us
  2. Log into your account, then click Settings.
  3. Go to Payments profile and click the edit pen icon next to Country/Region.
  4. You will need to create a payments profile for the new country:
    Click Create new profile.
Follow the on-screen instructions to create the new profile.
  5. The new change should occur automatically. At times you will have to wait for up to 48 hours or sooner.
  6. You can also clear your Google Play Store app cache to speed up the process.

Change your Google Play Country Using a VPN

This method changes your country temporarily. It is beneficial if you want to access geo-restricted free apps, games, books, movies, and TV shows. You can browse paid apps, but you won’t install them via the Google Play Store.

This method relies on a VPN (Virtual Private Network) mechanism that hides your actual IP address. When you connect to a VPN server, Google Play Store will see the server’s IP address. If you connect to a US server, then your geo-location will be adjusted to the US. You will get access to apps available in the US region.

Use the following steps to change your Google Play country on Android using a VPN service.

  1. Choose a reputable VPN – subscribe, download, and install it.
  2. Log in to the VPN app and connect to, for instance, a US server.
  3. Open your Android Settings > go to apps.
  4. Find Google Play Store and tap it.
  5. Tap on Force stop, under storage, hit Clear cache, and also clear data.
  6. Launch the Google Play Store and check on paid apps.

If the currency symbol corresponds to the country of the server you chose, then you have successfully changed your Google Play country. Repeat the procedure if you want to switch to other countries.

We recommend you use NordVPN. In our testing this was the best performing VPN for unblocking the Google Play Store.

NordVPN is also extremely fast and is capable of unblocking other services a well such as YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Netflix and more. It can also unblock websites not available on your network.

Fix Google Play Country Not Changing Problem

Here are a few solutions on how you can fix this problem.

  • Clear your Google Play Store cache and data.
  • Make sure Google Play Store is up to date.
  • Use a reputable VPN with no-logs policy (works for the temporary option).
  • Delete your old payments profile (works for changing the permanent country).

Wrap Up

Changing your Google Play country is a hassle-free process with benefits. You will bypass geo-restrictions and gain access to new apps and services. You may even get lower prices on certain paid apps. There are also promotional discounts in some countries.

The VPN method gives you a flexible option before you can commit to one country.

How to change your country in the Google Play Store on an Android phone, if you've moved to a new country

Moving to a new country is exciting and scary. It involves a lot of work to adapt, and use technology in a way that's familiar and useful to you. Changing your Google Play Store country can be one way to make the transition a little bit easier.

Before you get started, be aware that you can only add a new country to your account if you're actually in that country. You can also only change your country in Google Play once per year, and any balance you have in one country won't be carried over to the next — so you won't have access to that balance for at least a full year.

In other words, if you're moving to another country for a long time, changing your country in the Play Store is a good move. But if you're just hopping over for a short vacation, it's not a good idea.

Plus, the content within the Google Play Store may vary by country, so you may want to check whether your favorite apps are available and look for alternatives, if necessary.

With that in mind, here's how to change your Google Play Store country.

How to change the country in Google Play Store

Before you can change the country, you have to add that country to your account. Here's how:

1. Open the Google Play Store app.

4. Tap "Country and Profiles."

5. Tap the country that you want to add to your account.

6. Follow the directions and add a payment method — keep in mind that the first payment method you enter must be based within that new country for this to work.

After you've done this, Google Play Store will automatically switch over to your new country. Just be aware that it can take up to 24 hours for this action to be processed.

After a year elapses, you'll be able to switch between accounts again fairly easily. To do that, go back into the Google Play Store menu, which is accessed via the three stacked lines. Next, tap "Account" and then "Country and Profiles." Then tap the country you want to use for the next year.

If you're having a hard time with adding the country, or switching between accounts, try clearing your device's cache and data, or updating the Google Play Store app, to get things back on track.

How many times has it happened to you that you tried to download a certain app from the Google Play Store only to find that the app wasn’t available for your country? Needless to say, this can be quite frustrating.

The reason behind this is the fact that your Google Play Store country determines which apps you are allowed to download and install. Furthermore, some apps are region-locked, which means that they are only available in certain countries. If you’re not in one of those countries, not only will you not be allowed to download the app from the Play Store but you won’t be able to find it in the first place.

With that being said, if you move to another country where said app might be available, you should change this setting in your Google Play Store app. This article will explain how.

Things to Keep in Mind

Before we move on to the main part of the article, let’s talk about some things that you need to keep in mind. First of all, if you just want to get rid of the “Not available in your country” message while remaining in the same country, there is a solution that might work. We’ll discuss that later in the article.

However, if you have changed your country and now want to adjust this setting in your Google Play Store app, there are some restrictions to be aware of:

  1. The Google Play Store allows you to change your country in the app only once per year. In other words, if you change your country now, you will have to wait days to change it again.
  2. Once you change your country in the app, you won’t be allowed to use the Google Play balance that you had in your old country.

Now that we have covered the important aspects of this change, let’s see how you can do it.

Changing the Country in Your Google Play Store App on Android

To change your country in the Google Play Store app, you have to:

  1. Be in that country (the store detects this via your IP address)
  2. Set up a payment method from your new country

If you have that covered, you’re good to go.

Here is how to change this setting:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Tap on the menu icon in the upper left corner (three horizontal lines).
  3. Next, tap on Settings > General > Account and device preferences.
  4. Scroll down from the settings tab and look for the Country and profiles section. How to Change Country in the Play Store
  5. Then, tap on the country that you want to set your account to, the available list of countries will vary. Change the Country in the Play Store
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen and set up a payment method registered in the country you want to switch to.

You can add several payment methods, but the very first one has to be from the country that you have set. This will create an entirely new Google Payments profile which will be linked to the new country that you have entered.

Once you have done that, it might take up to 48 hours for the change to be accepted.

You should know that this feature isn’t available to everyone. The feature will only give you the option to change your country if you have previously visited a foreign country. As mentioned, the Google Play Store app has this information because of your IP address.

You also won’t be able to change your country if you have already used this feature within the previous year or if your account is part of a Google Play Family Library, which allows up to five people to access the apps and other purchased content from a single account in the group.

Changing the Country in Your Google Play Store App on a Computer

  1. Open up a browser and go to storycall.us
  2. Sign-in if you aren’t already.
  3. Now, click on Settings.
  4. Then, click on the Edit button next to Country/Region.
  5. Next, select Create a new profile.
  6. From here, follow the instructions to add a payment method.

Downloading an App Without Changing the Country Setting

If you can’t or don’t want to change your country, there is something else you can try if you want to download an app that isn’t available in your current location. This method requires a VPN service. But how does that work?

Google’s servers can read your IP address and determine where you are currently located. Since your computer or mobile phone is directly connected to their servers, all that you need to do is find a different route.

That’s exactly what a VPN does. Essentially, your phone (or computer) will be connecting to your VPN provider’s server in a country of your choosing, and that server will then connect to Google’s servers posing as your device.

That way, the app won’t be able to figure out where you are currently located at as it won’t see your actual IP address. Instead, it will see the address of the VPN server you’re using to access the service.

So, if an app isn’t available in your country but you know that it is available in the United States, all that you need to do is select the United States as the location of your VPN server.

You can use tons of different VPN apps to do this, but TunnelBear VPN may be one of the best and easiest to use. Plus, you get MB of free VPN traffic at the start of every month. There are other trustworthy VPN providers out there, but you will need to pay for their services.

Change Country in the Play Store

Your other option is to look for apps similar to the Google Play Store and use them to find the app that you weren’t able to download. You can try:

  1. Amazon Appstore
  2. SlideME
  3. F-Droid
  4. Humble Bundle

Enjoy Your Future Downloads

After reading this article, you now know how to change your location in the Google Play Store. Remember the restrictions that will occur when you change your country, though, so if you’re only going on a short trip, it’s best to wait to get back home to download the app you need.

Do you use VPN services to download apps that aren’t available in your country? If so, what VPN do you use? Share your top picks in the comments section below.

Relocating To New Country? How To Change Google Play Store Region

It&#;s simple to use the Google Play Store: open it, browse for the app you wish to download, then install it on your smartphone. That&#;s pretty much everything there is to it. But what if you relocate to another country? For billing information, you&#;ll need access to the correct version of the Play Store. Additionally, Google Play has distinct apps for different countries, which might occasionally enable or prevent access to specific apps.

Whether you&#;ve just relocated or want to explore the Google Play Store of a different region, the unpleasant fact is that the material on the Google Play Store is based on your Play Store settings&#; location.

Luckily, when your IP address changes, the Play Store will automatically update your nation and region. That means you can use a VPN to trick the system into changing your Google Play country. Don&#;t know where to start? Don&#;t worry, we&#;ve got you covered!

By using in-app settings

• On your Android smartphone, open the Play Store app.

• Select Account from the left menu that has been slid out, then go to Settings> General.

• Select Account and Device Preferences, you&#;ll see a Country and profiles section containing your current account&#;s country.

• If your phone recognizes that you&#;ve moved to a new nation, a Switch to the [region] Play Store option will appear below.

Using a VPN

If you want to explore the Google Play Store of another region without having to actually take a flight, then you can use a third-party VPN app.

• Choose a VPN service. This will allow you to access geo-restricted apps on the Google Play Store. Several applications, such as NordVPN or VPN Master, are available. These applications are both quick and dependable.

• On the Google Play Store, clear your data.

• Connect to a VPN server in the country or area you want to visit.

Before starting

This is a sweet recommendation for those who want to save themselves the headache: the best thing you can do to download Android applications that are not available in your country is to go to sites like APK Mirror. There you look for the app you want and you only have to allow the installation of applications from unknown sources on Android.

APK Mirror is popular for its huge repository updated daily, for its security, since it directly extracts APKs from the Play Store and you don&#;t have the risk of downloading apps that are trout with malware, and because it is not a place to go to steal apps paid, there are only applications that can be downloaded for free in the Google store.

Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the change of Google Play Store country to reflect.

And also note that this option to change your region/country on Google Play Store won&#;t appear for everybody. It only shows up when you were previously in a different country i.e IP address. This will allow you to switch your Play Store to any other country you want.

If you use Google Play Family Library feature, you won&#;t see the option to change your Play Store country. Note that there are some very good applications you won&#;t find on the Google Play Store whether you change your region or not.

What you should note when you change your Google Play Store Country

When you change your Google Play Store region, you should take note of some important things.

Regardless of how you decide to change the location on your Google Play account, we recommend that you use a VPN to change your Google Play Store country and access information online, as it helps protect the guarantee of better privacy and allows you to enjoy better network neutrality.

How to Change Google Play Store country using VPN

This method is for those who have even more time to spend and who are not satisfied with the solution offered to download APKs, or simply do not have a valid payment method for the country you want to use .

You can use the Play Store of another country as long as you create a Google account in that country. This means that with your current account it will not work, unless you have the payment method. So the first thing is to create a new Google account from the country in question.

For this, it is necessary to use a VPN, both in the browser when creating the account, and from Android when logging in. I have used Tunnelbear, because for this the free megabytes it gives are more than enough.

  • The first thing is to download the VPN on Android and make sure it works.
  • The second thing is to create a new Google account also using a VPN with the location of the country whose account you want to create. You can create a UK account and put a phone from Spain, that&#;s not a problem.
  • And the third thing is to remove your current Google account from the device: Settings> Accounts> Google> Remove account.
  • Now, clear the data from the Play Store
  • Open the VPN on Android and choose the country with which we are going to configure the Google account that we already created. Once it&#;s working it&#;s time to open the Play Store again.
  • Log in with your new Google account details and you&#;re done. You should see the items in the store in the currency of that country. You do not need to add a payment method, because as it is a new account you can skip that step for now.

Why change Google Play Store Locations

The most obvious reason for changing a Google Play location is a long-term relocation. Although, as with most online services, the available catalog may vary from country to country and not all applications are available everywhere.

Popular downloads, such as the ESPN app, the CBS app, Pokemon Go, and many others, may be unavailable or not working properly in specific regions. If you want to access the entire Google Play catalog, you will need to falsify or change your Google Play Store country or location.

In addition, because the Google Play store accesses IP and GPS addresses, relocating and continuing to use Google Play without updating the information can result in a conflict between the actual location and the documented location. Google may interpret the discrepancy as unauthorized access and freeze accounts.

That&#;s all on how to change your country or region in Google Play Store and also download apps that are not available for download in that country.
